Gas Platform

MISSION

The “Gas Platform” is a common governmental initiative (Benelux – France – Germany) aiming to create a regional Northwest-European gas market as an intermediate step towards one common European gas market, committed to work closely together with all relevant parties. The “Gas Platform” will also focus on maintaining and improving security of supply.

STRUCTURE

The Gas Platform is initiated and directed by the ministers of energy of the five countries (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and The Netherlands). For the preparation and follow up of the decisions, each minister relies on a gas coordinator. The gas coordinators are responsible for organizational aspects in order to facilitate the process. Two working groups are set up, to deal with market and competitive issues, on the one hand, and with security of supply issues on the other hand.

The working groups serve as a vehicle for discussion and decisions making on specific topics. They are composed of the gas coordinators who can be accompanied by their respective experts (e.g. regulators, TSOs, etc.) – depending on the subject that is on the agenda. The daily functioning of the Platform lies with the secretariat provided by the Benelux Secretariat.
